Raintree Therapy Services is a small private practice providing neurodiversity-affirming speech-language therapy services for children in their homes, daycares, and schools in West Pasco and North Pinellas Counties, and virtual (teletherapy) services throughout the state of Florida.
Jocelyn Richardson, M.A., CCC/SLP, is a speech-language pathologist with over 24 years' experience in the field treating a variety of childhood speech-language diagnoses. She is licensed to practice in the state of Florida and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Jocelyn has worked with a wide range of ages, from early intervention (birth-3) through high school and some developmentally-delayed young adults. She has worked in multiple settings, including schools, homes, daycares, and private clinics, as well as provided services through teletherapy.
Jocelyn believes that all play is valid and functional, behavior is communication, and children do well when they can.
Raintree Therapy Services embraces the neurodiversity paradigm. We don't aim to change or hide one's neurology. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for children by helping them to communicate their needs and wants, and engage fully in their lives, while also helping those around them to understand their unique communication styles and accommodate to them accordingly. Compliance is never the goal, and we don't use or recommend behaviorist methodologies.
An evaluation appointment typically lasts one to two hours, depending on the age and needs of the child. Areas assessed may include

Play is the work of childhood, and it's how children learn and retain skills best. At Raintree Therapy Services, we don't do rote memorization and skill-drill therapy; we PLAY WITH A PURPOSE to facilitate the development of children's communication skills. Activities are child-led, with the therapist adapting the complexity of the tasks in order to create the appropriate challenge level to allow the child to achieve success. Movement is incorporated in sessions as much as possible, improving focus and retention of skills.
Therapy sessions can address several skill areas, including cognition (thinking, organizing, executive functioning); speech (how sounds and words are produced); language (understanding and using words); social skills (from a neurodiversity perspective); self-advocacy; and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes to one hour per session, one to four times weekly, depending on the needs of the child.
Teletherapy services are also available for families who prefer that option.
